President / Lover’s Leap Area Lead
"I'm in my second term on the board and I continue to volunteer because I love climbing and find peace and happiness in some of these special places where we climb. I’ve been climbing for almost 30 years, am an active climbing guide and have worked professionally in many parts of the climbing industry – through that I’ve seen the positive impacts that climbing has had on many peoples’ lives. I’ve also seen how the more recent exponential growth of climbing has had an increased impact on our many climbing areas, trails and campgrounds. While climbing has grown enormously in the last 5-10 years especially, we haven't seen the same growth in membership to non-profit access and advocacy organizations like the Access Fund and local climbing organizations (LCOs) like CRAGS. As a social scientist and college professor I've spent decades learning that education is difficult without the support structures that help generate buy-in for various stakeholders. There’s a lot of work to do in outreach, policy advocacy, interfacing with land management agencies and in building and maintaining trail infrastructures and cleaning up trash or graffiti. Join us and help us in those crucial areas to keep climbing access and improve the infrastructure of our fast growing user groups."
